Coachella 2016: LCD Soundsystem pay tribute to David Bowie with 'Heroes' cover

LCD Soundsystem's frontman James Murphy had worked closely with Bowie on the last two of his albums, The Next Day and Blackstar

Music is still saying its goodbyes to a legend as magnificent as David Bowie; with LCD Soundsystem's epic reunion set at Coachella paying tribute to a true musical legacy.

Indeed, it was a particularly touching moment for its frontman James Murphy, who had worked extensively with Bowie of late; contributing both to 2013's The Next Day and 2015's ★ (Blackstar). The band paused their set to cover Bowie's "Heroes"; granted the haunting, melancholy tones of Murphy's voice, it was a truly beautiful tribute that certainly won't be lost amongst the multitude of recent homages.

The band's cover joins such high-profile iterations as Lorde's performance of "Life on Mars" at the BRITs, Lady Gaga's medley of his work at the Grammys, and Michael Stipe's version of "The Man Who Sold the World" on Jimmy Fallon. Bowie passed away 10 January this year, aged 69.

The band also playfully saluted fellow Coachella performers Guns N' Roses, who reunite for the first time in two decades at the festival, with a mash-up of "New York I Love You" and "November Rain". Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose was recently announced to be joining AC/DC for their world tour, after Brian Johnson was forced to quit due to hearing problems.
