Dr Dre’s new album Compton is out and Kendrick Lamar’s on form once again
Dr Dre’s long-awaited new album Compton: The Soundtrack hit Apple Music this morning, and the initial reaction seems to be really positive.
Dre ditched his originally-planned The Detox album in favour of this one, which feels pretty modern, filled with shuddering bass lines and some incredible production.
Deep Water is an early stand-out track, on which Dre’s protegee Kendrick delivers a killer verse. It also sees him reference Drake’s ‘Started From The Bottom’, which some people are hell bent on declaring a diss (it isn’t).
But yeah, everyone seems to be enjoying it:
A love/hate letter to Compton, the album’s royalties will be donated by Dre to a new performing arts centre in the city.
"I feel it's the right thing to do and I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album,” he said.
Fellow West Coast rapper Snoop Dogg features on the record, while Eminem and BJ the Chicago Kid also make appearances.
You’ll need to sign up for Apple Music to hear it, but Apple is currently offering a three-month free trial of its new streaming service.
