Drake fails to equal Bryan Adams’ record for longest time at UK no1

Drake has failed to match Bryan Adams’ 1991 record for the most consecutive weeks at number one in the UK singles chart.

The Canadian musician’s 15-week run at the top of the charts with One Dance - featuring Wizkid & Kyla - has been ended by Major Lazer and Justin Bieber.

Fellow Canadian Adams spent 16 weeks in the number one spot with (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, from the sound track to the Kevin Costner film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

Bieber and Danish singer MO feature on Cold Water, the new number one single by US electronic artist Major Lazer, which has been co-written by Ed Sheeran and Benny Blanco.

The track received 102,000 combined sales taking it to the top spot, including 5.56 million streams and 47,000 downloads, according to the Official Charts Company.

Major Lazer told OfficialCharts.com: "We can't believe we have our first Number 1 and are amazed at the support from the UK and are so thankful for the amazing Because team that we work Major Lazer records with. We have a lot more coming for you this summer!"

Released last Friday, Cold Water is the second single to enter the charts at number one this year.

Former One Direction member, Zayn Malik’s Pillowtalk was the first to do so in February.

Cold Water also marks the first time in UK chart history two Danish acts have reached number one in the same year, with the band Lukas Graham’s single 7 Years reaching the top spot in February.

Drake’s One Dance now sits at number five, however he has secured the record for the longest-running UK number one single since legal music downloads began counting towards chart positions.

Along with Adams' hit, the song also joins Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, Wet Wet Wet's Love Is All Around, and Frankie Lane's I Believe to enter the top five longest-running umber one singles in UK chart history.
