Fans boo Justin Bieber as star turns up 90 minutes late to Iowa concert
Show all 2Justin Bieber has angered fans in Iowa after turning up more than 90 minutes late to a concert in Des Moines.
The Canadian pop star took to the stage for his Believe world tour concert at 10.05pm, over an hour and a half after his supporting act Hot Chelle Rae finished their set at 8.30pm.
Fans at Iowa Event Centre chanted “Where is Bieber?” and began to boo when the star emerged after 10pm suspended from the ceiling dressed as an angel.
Parent Brenda Shadravan, who was one of the 13,000 attendees kept waiting, told the Des Moines Register: “As a mother, I’m not too happy about it. I think it’s rude to make your fans wait an hour and a half when they paid so much for tickets.”
However, Iowa Event Centre has backed the singer and said the official start time for Bieber’s show was 9.30pm, only making him 25 minutes late. Viki Arias, marketing manager for the event centre, said: “The rest of the show went off without a hitch.”
Bieber drew criticism from fans and parents in London when the star was more than two hours late to start his concert at the O2 Arena in March.
In April he disappointed German fans by turning up two hours late to his Believe world tour concert, and he arrived two hours late to the stage in Dubai in May.
The star urged critics at the Billboard Music Awards in May to focus on the “craft” of his music rather than his offstage antics.
He said: “This is not a gimmick, and I’m an artist, and I should be taken seriously. And all this other bull should not be spoken of.”
