Paul Hollywood has commented on fellow judge Prue Leith accidentally revealing this year’s Great British Bake Off winner hours before the episode aired.

"What can you say? I was horrified,” Hollywood said on Channel 4's spin-off show An Extra Slice. "She's made a mistake."

Jo Brand — who hosts the show — joked: "Unfortunately Prue can't be with us as she's too busy deleting her Twitter account.”

Leith had accidentally Tweeted the series winner, Sophie Faldo, 12 hours before the final episode was broadcast on Channel 4, writing: “No one told me judging a #gbbo final would be so emotional. I wanted them all to win. Bravo Sophie.”

The judge — who was in Bhutan at the time — quickly deleted the message and apologised, saying moments after the incident that she was “in too much of a state to talk about it.”

Later she tweeted: “I am so sorry to the fans of the show for my mistake this morning, I am in a different time zone and mortified by my error.”

Despite the mishap, the final was watched by record numbers of people for Channel 4. According to reports, 7.7 million tuned in to see Sophie crowded winner, the most-watched Channel 4 programme since the 2012 Paralympics opening ceremony.
