Miley Cyrus’s raunchy performance at the VMAs has kept MTV in the news for the past month, so it’s no surprise to see that the pop star has been nominated for awards at the next major MTV ceremony.

The singer has been shortlisted in the Best Pop and Best Female categories at the Europe Music Awards. Her controversial new video “Wrecking Ball”, which attracted 19.3m views for online video streaming service Vevo in just 24 hours, has been nominated for Best Video.

Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lead the field on five nominations apiece. Timberlake picked up nods in categories such as Best Male and Best Live, while the rap duo could land Best Song for their hit Thrift Shop.

High-profile British acts are also in the mix for awards. One Direction are up for Best Pop, alongside Harry Styles’ former love interest Taylor Swift. Directioners will have to battle it out with Justin Bieber’s Beliebers and Lady GaGa’s Monsters to secure the band the Biggest Fans awards.

Ozzy Osbourne’s band Black Sabbath, who topped the UK and US album charts earlier this year with their latest record 13, is nominated for Best Rock. Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand, who’ve both enjoyed successful comebacks this year, will duke it out for Best Alternative. Calvin Harris is nominated in the Best Electronic category.

The gongs will be handed out in Amsterdam on 10 November.
