Illness forces Elton to cancel concerts

Sir Elton John yesterday cancelled three nights of performances in Las Vegas after being hospitalised with a serious respiratory infection.

The singer apologised for the decision on his website and told fans he hoped to be back soon. He said he had developed the illness on Sunday and was treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles on Wednesday. He was prescribed antibiotics and told to rest.
