John Lydon shows support for Trump

John Lydon shouted down Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain while explaining his decision to vote for Donald Trump in the US election.

The Sex Pistols frontman was appearing on the ITV show from his home in Los Angeles on Wednesday (4 November), during which he showed his support for the Republican candidate as a rejection of “intellectual, left-wing ideas”.

“I’m working-class English, it makes complete sense to me to vote for a person who actually talks about my kind of people,” he said.

“Trump’s not a politician. He’s never claimed to be. How unusually, exceptionally wonderful is that for people like me?”

Saying that the public were bored of “intellectual, left-wing ideas”, Lydon continued: “We can’t take much more of you, you talk twaddle. Everything you do, you just miss the point of who the general population are.”

Presenter Reid then attempted to ask Lydon a question, only for the musician to shout back: “Let me finish! Don’t interrupt, it’s rude.”

He then commented that the Democratic Party do “nothing for these people”, adding: “This is why they now support him so loyally, because he’s the only hope. You can call him a narcissist, you can call him nasty, he can do many different things, this fella’. But he’s the only hope because the system as usual is an S-H system.”

GMB viewers were left frustrated by the footage, asking why Lydon had even been interviewed.

“Why is John Lydon even getting interviewed about American election? He’s a rich LA landlord, not a political pundit and not had a hit record for decades - may as well ask a member of Racey what they think,” one viewer questioned.

“40 years ago I thought John Lydon spoke for me... In fact he just talked s***e,” another viewer commented. “You & America f***ing deserve each other.”
