Johnny Depp ‘not involved’ in Michael Jackson musical about his glove

Representative denied initial reports that suggested the actor's production company was behind the project

A representative has denied that Johnny Depp or his production company, Infinitum Nihil, are involved with the forthcoming musical told from the perspective of Michael Jackson’s glove, contrary to previous reports.

Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the American actor would produce For the Love of a Glove: An Unauthorized Musical Fable About the Life of Michael Jackson, as told by his Glove.

A clarification in the original article stated: “An earlier version of the story listed Johnny Depp and his production company Infinitum Nihil as producers of For the Love of a Glove.

“There is currently a dispute over credits and a rep for Depp says that he and his company are not producing and not involved in any way.” ​

According to writer Julien Nitzberg, the musical will tell the story of a group of aliens shaped like bedazzled gloves crash-landing in Gary, Indiana who find a young Michael Jackson.

Nitzberg commented: “It turns out, [the glove] can give people magical musical talent if it drinks their blood and has part of their body inside of it. But it can only feed on virgin boy blood.”

The director went on to describe the musical as a “look into the strange forces that shaped Michael and the scandals that bedeviled his reputation.”

It follows the announcement that Graham King, producer of Bohemian Rhapsody, has gained the rights to make a film detailing the singer’s life. A sanctioned Broadway musical surrounding Michael Jackson’s life, MJ, is also set to run next year.
