Kanye West has been announced as a headliner at Glastonbury festival for the Saturday night.

The hip-hop superstar will join Foo Fighters, who will perform on Friday night, with the Sunday night headliner still to be announced.

There was plenty of speculation on Twitter that West would be announced for the festival, and the news has since been confirmed on the official websites of both West and Glastonbury.

Noel Gallagher claimed it was "wrong" to have a hip-hop headliner when Jay Z became the first-hip-hop artist to perform at the festival in 2008. Jay Z responded by performing a version of "Wonderwall" by Oasis.

A statement on the Glastonbury website read: "We’re very excited to reveal that Kanye West will headline the Saturday night of this year’s Glastonbury Festival. This will be the rapper’s first appearance at the Festival."
