Marilyn Manson injured after set collapses during concert

The rock star was seen trying to climb scaffolding supporting two giant guns, before the prop dramatically fell on top of him

Marilyn Manson has been injured during a concert in New York City, when a stage prop of two giant guns backed on metal scaffolding appeared to collapse on top of him.

The rock star was performing a cover of the Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)' at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan when he began to climb the set piece behind him, causing it to wobble and fall on top of him. The house and stage lights went dark for several minutes, before they came back on with an announcement that the show was over "due to injury".

Manson's publicist told The New York Times that the injury occurred toward the end of his show and that he is being treated in a hospital, though the exact nature or severity of his injuries has not been confirmed.

An eyewitness told the BBC that the musician was covered by a black sheet before he could be taken off stage on a stretcher, adding that Manson was: "pretty limp, almost as though he was unconscious." In videos of the incident, the prop is lifted off of him, but he does not get back up.

The show was the third stop on Manson's world tour, whose 10th studio album Heaven Upside Down is due to be released this Friday. There is no word on whether the rest of the tour might be affected.
