REM and the Verve will headline this year's T In The Park music festival.

The American alternative rockers and the re-formed British band will lead what organisers are calling a "mega line-up" for the three-day event at Balado in Perthshire.

Kings Of Leon and Rage Against The Machine have also been announced as headliners. The Verve will play the Main Stage on the Friday night, REM will appear on Sunday evening.

Other confirmed acts include the Kaiser Chiefs, the Fratellis, Stereophonics, the Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers. The Kooks, Primal Scream, K T Tunstall, The Enemy and The Feeling will also perform.

Crowds of 80,000 are expected to attend the festival, Scotland's biggest outdoor music event, which takes place from Friday 11 July to Sunday 13 July.

Some music lovers have been queuing since yesterday to get tickets, which go on sale today at 9am.

For the first time this year festival-goers will be able to camp from the Thursday. That follows a review by organisers after heavy rain in 2007 caused car parks to shut.
