Last month, The xx revealed that they are currently hard at work on their third record - the London trio's first since 2012's Coexist.

They announced the news via social media where they also decided to share a playlist filled with the music they'd been listening to in the studio.

The playlist - titled 'the xx: in the studio' - includes music from the likes of Frank Ocean, Solange and Glastonbury 2017 headliners Radiohead with members Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie xx frequently adding more.

Dazed reports that last night saw the addition of a mysterious 55-second track that bore no title or featured artist. Naturally, people believe this to be the first sign of new music from the Wandsworth band.

You can listen to the instrumental track below.

The xx found acclaim, as well as a Mercury Music Prize win, after the release of xx in 2009. In their hiatus following the release of Coexist, member Jamie xx went solo releasing debut album In Colour in May 2015 which featured the tracks "Gosh" and "Obvs."
