Wakeman is a prog rock 'god'
Rick Wakeman and Genesis were named winners at the first Progressive Music Awards held at Kew Gardens last night.
Wakeman, the Yes keyboardist who has sold more than 50 million solo albums, won the Prog God Award. "I'm very proud indeed," he said. "There is hardly a band or musician anywhere who hasn't used some element of prog in their music."
Newsnight host Gavin Esler presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Genesis, while Rush won Album of the Year.
