Album: Booker T, Sound the Alarm (Decca)

Yep, it's Booker T Jones of MGs fame, returning not to his deep roots so much as to his green shoots in the mid-1960s: commercial R&B rhythm grooved on Hammond organ, voiced by others where required, but otherwise quite content to swing instrumentally from the hip.

Guests include Estelle and the ubiquitous Gary Clark Jr. And while the presiding atmosphere is retro, the Avila brothers' production keeps things properly real. Nice 'n' soulful.
