Another addition to trumpeter Wheeler's late-period masterworks for this Italian label.
It's a trio featuring the leader playing flugelhorn throughout, with regular accomplice John Taylor on piano, and Steve Swallow on electric bass. Recorded five years ago, when he was already 76, Wheeler – who wrote all of the 10 tunes – sounds a little below his peak-period par, with fewer slurring slides into the atmosphere, but his deeper, melancholy tone excels on the many tender ballads.
