Album: Various artists, The Rough Guide to the Music of Ethiopia (World Music Network)
Occasionally, a Rough Guide compilation hits the bull's-eye and this is a case in point.
Ethiopiques classics from the 1970s by the likes of Mahmoud Ahmed rub shoulders with contemporary tracks from Bole 2 Harlem, Dub Colossus and Getatchew Mekuria which respectively stir hip-hop, dub reggae and punk rock into the mix. Plus there's a bonus CD featuring Invisible System, arguably the most experimental Ethio-fusion project of them all.
