Sisters act

Never mind Difficult Second Album syndrome. When Indianapolis sisters Lily & Madeleine released their lovely self-titled debut album in 2013, their stated aim was to record an album a year for the next three years. True to their word, one year and one day later (28 October to be precise), the still-in-their-teens pair will release Fumes, an even-better-than-the-first-one follow-up. The first track to be made available is called “The Wolf is Free” and you can listen to it now

Lunar tunes

And talking of excellent albums from last year, perhaps the best of all was Bill Callahan’s Dream River, which is worth mentioning again for no other reason than that there is a new (and just a little bit surreal) video for the track “Javelin Unlanding”. If you found the Teletubbies’ baby-face-in-the-sun unsettling, wait till you see Callahan as Mr Moon, is all I’m saying

Come back Bowie & Bing

Cheek to Cheek, the album by Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett that was supposed to come out on 1 January this year, is finally going to see the light of day. We know this because the pair have just released a video for the song “Anything Goes”. Two questions: 1) What took them so long? And 2) Why? Make your own mind up

School’s out

Watch out for the “insanely young” indie-folk band” Mortal Tides. The group release their debut EP in October and will, apparently, “be telling their parents they’re studying towards their exams” when they go out on tour that same month. Promising. Watch the video for “Naiad”

Next week’s biggie

Kevin Harley reviews The Fire Inside, the debut album from Luke Sital-Singh. Watch “Bottled Up Tight” at the Bonus Track web page.
