After Dark Tours in Stratford-upon-Avon introduce visitors to 'real ghosts' of the RSC

There's something spooky going on at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, and it's not just the ghost of Hamlet's father in their current production.

Their latest series of After Dark Tours introduce visitors to the "real ghosts" of the RSC after performances.

The most commonly sighted ghosts include the Perfumed Lady, whose flowery scent has often haunted new front-of-house staff and the Grey Lady, whose presence has been detected by thermal-imaging cameras.

There are, however, many more, says Holly Clarke, RSC visitor experience co-ordinator. Clarke, who has never seen a ghost herself, but is "very open to any ghostly encounter" , says many working at the theatre during its major transformation project, completed in 2010, reported visions of "people being where they shouldn't be when they can't be".

Getting Hamlet and the After Dark Tours to coincide was an "ideal opportunity" she says.
