Children in Need 2014: Viewers donate £25 million before midnight

More than £6 million was raised by Radio 2 listeners before tonight's 6 hour TV gala even began

More than £25 million had been donated by BBC One viewers to Children in Need before 12pm, the broadcaster said.

The TV fundraising gala had brought in £17,167,283 including donations made from a series of events before this evening's broadcast reached 10pm.

Before the 6 and a half hour fundraising programme even started it was revealed that Radio 2 listeners had already donated £6,186,178 for this year's appeal.

Last year Children in Need raised a record £31m for disadvantaged children and young adults in the UK.

Tonight's programme was hosted by Sir Terry Wogan, Tess Daly, Nick Grimshaw, Fearne Cotton and Rochelle Humes from pop group The Saturdays.
