Arnold Palmer death: The Simpsons eerily referenced him last night

The episode was created prior to the golfer's passing

The Simpsons has a long history of predicting events - from Donald Trump running for president to the horse meat scandal - and last night there was another oddly timely reference.

A few hours after the news broke of the death of beloved golfer Arnold Palmer, an episode of The Simpsons created prior to his death was broadcast which name-checked him repeatedly.

It sees Homer refer to him in the past tense - “Arnold Palmer was a golfer” - you can watch the clip below:

"I'm going to fill a Super Soaker full of lemonade, Karl's going to fill one with iced tea and we're going to Arnold Palmer Lenny when he walks in!” Homer tells Marge.

"Arnold Palmer Lenny? You're going to Arnold Palmer Lenny?” she replies skeptically.

“Yeah, you see, Arnold Palmer was a golfer and he made up this drink where it's not a full glass of lemonade or a full glass of iced tea.”

Is this proof of The Simpsons’ clairvoyance? No, but it does show that when a show becomes so long-running that it takes 13 days to air back-to-back, you end up with a Library of Babel-esque situation where pretty much everything conceivable is discussed at one point or another.
