Broadchurch remake Gracepoint will not get second series after low ratings in the US

The series finale only attracted 4 million viewers on Fox

The US remake of Broadchurch will not get a second series after suffering disappointing ratings.

Starring David Tennant and Anna Gun, Gracepoint pulled in 4 million viewers for its season finale earlier this week.

The series, which was written by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, will not be renewed for a second series, according to Entertainment Week.

The Fox drama was criticised in the UK for replacing Olivia Colman with Breaking Bad’s Gun, and for its like-for-like resemblance to the Bafta-winning British series.

The series also revealed a different killer to the Broadchurch original, with DS Ellie Miller's son Tom accidentally hitting Danny with an oar.

Gracepoint was originally billed as a “limited series” and not a long-running drama, but it is thought Fox could have renewed the show if it had been a ratings success.

The US Broadchurch remake pulled in less than half the viewing figures of the ITV original drama, which was watched by an average 9.2 million people each week in the UK.

Broadchurch will return for a second series in January, starring David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan and Arthur Darvill.

They will be joined by new faces James D’Arcy, Charlotte Rampling, Meera Syal and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

The first trailer for the second series released last week hinted that the plotline could revolve around the abduction of young girls in the sleepy seaside town.
