Chris Moyles to make radio breakfast show comeback on new 'male-focussed' XFM replacement station
The 41-year-old will host a regular breakfast show on Radio X, playing predominantly fresh rock and guitar-based music
Chris Moyles is to return as a breakfast show host for radio's answer to TV channel Dave.
The former Radio 1 DJ will host an early morning breakfast show for Radio X, a "male-focussed" replacement for XFM.
Moyles will present the show from 6.30am to 10am, playing predominantly fresh rock and guitar-based music.
The 41-year-old will be joined by other names including Vernon Kay, Johnny Vaughan and the Kaiser Chief’s Ricky Wilson.
Launched by Global Radio, Radio X aims to be the “first truly male-focussed” station, targeted at 25-44 year olds.
Ashley Tabor, Global’s founder and executive president, said: “I've had a great summer hearing some of the funniest rumours I've ever heard. I'm pleased we can now confirm the industry's best kept secret, we are indeed launching a brand new national radio station on Monday September 21.
“Radio X will focus on fresh rock and guitar-based music alongside huge personalities. And personalities don't get any bigger than Chris Moyles.
“Chris is a broadcasting genius and as Global makes a multi-million pound investment in launching Radio X on a national scale, I couldn't think of anyone better to host the station's breakfast show.”
Moyles fronted his own Radio 1 breakfast show from 2004-2012, but was eventually replaced by Nick Grimshaw in the hope of attracting a younger audience to the station’s airwaves.
His peak audience of 7.06 million has yet to be matched by the newly recruited X Factor judge, who attracts 5.5 million listeners a week, according to recent Rajar listening figures.
