Community movie may happen as Yahoo wants to start work 'immediately', creator says

Creator Dan Harmon said the on-demand streaming service 'wanted to turn around and do a movie' after the season six finale

Community creator Dan Harmon has given hope to fans that the series will make good on its half-joke, half-promise of six seasons and a movie.

Harmon said that Yahoo! Screen "wanted to turn around and do a movie immediately", following the finale of the sixth season earlier this week.

"They’re like the NSA," Harmon joked on Entertainment Weekly Radio, when discussing movie negotiations with the on-demand streaming service.

The recurrent half-joke, half-promise on the cult show of #SixSeasonsAndAMovie has been alluded to since the second season, however, Harmon says that a movie may not happen for a little while.

"I told Yahoo, 'I can’t think about writing a movie until I miss Community,'" he said.

The show creator also acknowledged the difficulties of reuniting the original cast following departures of Donald Glover, also known as rapper Childish Gambino, Chevy Chase, John Oliver and Yvette Nicole Brown: "The difficulty is in just: Can you get all the actors in the same place again?"

The show which currently stars Allison Brie, Joel McHale and Danny Pudi in an ensemble cast, has earned a cult following with successive critically acclaimed early seasons.
