Chris Addison is to appear again on screen with his former Thick of It co-star Peter Capaldi in the Doctor Who series eight finale.

The actor, who plays special advisor Ollie Reeder in the BBC comedy series, will star in the series eight two-part finale “Dark Water / Death in Heaven”.

Addison said being asked to appear in Doctor Who was “the easiest question I’ve ever been asked”.

“It's a 35-year dream come true. Seven-year old me would be going off his nut and I'm not far behind, “ he told RadioTimes.com.

“It's a great way to spend a couple of weeks, working with people I've always wanted to work with on a show I've loved all my life. My bucket list is quite a lot shorter now.”

Capaldi and Addison last appeared on screen together in their respective Thick of It roles, which saw the new Time Lord play the foul-mouthed spin doctor Malcolm Tucker.

Addison joins a long list of guest stars confirmed to appear in series eight of the BBC sci-fi classic including Keeley Hawes, Frank Skinner, singer Foxes and Sanjeev Bhaskar.

The Thick of It actor has also been touted as the bookies’ second favourite to replace Jenna Louise Coleman after tabloid speculation she will leave the show.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One with feature-length series opener “Deep Breath” on Saturday 23 August at 7.50pm.
