Production has begun on the second season of The End of the F***ing World.

The first season of the dark comedy, produced by Channel 4 and Netflix, took its basis from comic book series by Charles Forsman, following two teen outsiders – Alex Lawther’s James and Jessica Barden’s Alyssa – as they head out on a road trip to find Alyssa’s father, who left home when she was a child.

Barden posted a photo of the new season’s shooting script to Twitter, accompanied by the date of 1 March, while Netflix’s See What’s Next Twitter account also announced that filming had begun on the new episodes.

“Merry Christmas. See you soon,” she wrote.

Back in 2018, series director Jonathan Entwistle told Collider: “We’re exploring and we’re seeing what we can do to expand the world and see where we get to.”

“But we conceived the show as, in a way, as a movie; a movie in structure. And I think that that is something we’re going to have to expand if we want a bigger story.”

The first season covered the entirety of Forsman’s comics, meaning any further episodes will have to expand beyond the original narrative.

The End of the F***ing World will debut on Channel 4 in the UK, before reaching Netflix at a later date.
