Fox has cancelled The Mindy Project after three seasons and unsurprisingly, the sitcom’s dedicated fanbase has not taken the news well.

Mindy Kaling, also known as Kelly Kapoor in The Office, created and stars in the hit show as hugely popular character Dr Mindy Lahiri.

To make matters worse, last season’s gripping finale ended on a cliffhanger, with Danny boarding a plane to India to ask pregnant Mindy’s parents for their blessing. It was all very emotional.

Fortunately, before your Thursdays are completely ruined, talks are reportedly underway to find The Mindy Project a new home for further seasons, likely on Hulu.

Kaling would probably be on board with this, after she recently spoke of her pride for the series. “There’s nothing really that I would do differently in the way that we’ve built the show in the last couple of years,” she told E! News, adding that she loved how the romcom storyline followed “two realistic people falling in love, that didn’t shy away from stuff that was real”.

Much of Mindy’s popularity came from that fact that, in her own words she is “an Indian-American woman who is not, sort of, pencil – thin”.

Many fans are crying over the sad fact that they may never get to see the couple’s baby, while others are already missing Mindy’s fashion decisions and some have even gone so far as to compare their grief to, shock horror, Zayn quitting One Direction.

Mindy herself seems to be dealing with everything brilliantly, posting a video of herself winking on Instagram as if nothing had happened.

We’re going to take this as a hint that all will be okay and more Mindy is on the way soon.
