David Schwimmer says Friends reunion will be first time he’s seen cast ‘in years’ as filming finally begins

Unscripted special has faced many setbacks due to the pandemic

David Schwimmer has revealed that the long-awaited Friends reunion is finally about to start filming.

Appearing on Friday (2 April) night’s episode of The Graham Norton Show, the actor confirmed that he was flying out to Los Angeles to shoot the reunion special with his former co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc.

“I will get to see everyone for the first time in years,” Schwimmer said.

Asked whether he’d be appearing in the special as palaeontologist Ross Gellar or himself, the actor confirmed that the special was unscripted and they would not be “in character”.

“We are all ourselves, although there is one section of it that I don’t want to give away, but we all read something,” he said.

The Friends reunion was originally meant to air last year to mark the show’s 25-year anniversary, but has faced significant delays due to the pandemic.

The episode currently has the working title The One Where They Got Back Together, and will air on streaming service HBO Max. It is being produced by the production company behind The Late Late Show with James Corden.

In January, Kudrow confirmed that she had already “pre-shot” some scenes for the special.
