Game of Thrones: Cersei actor discusses meeting Daenerys during finale, mentions prophecy

'She’s immediately envious because Daenerys is more beautiful and younger than she is'

Game of Thrones’ seventh season has wrapped, the White Walkers having finally broken through the Wall using their undead dragon.

Down south, though, the Queen remains unworried about the impending arrival of the undead army, despite meeting a wight face-to-face. Cersei may have promised Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow help, but there’s no intent on following through.

Those three characters, aching with Tyrion Lannister, finally getting together was one of the season’s highlights. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Cersei actor Lena Headey discussed what was going through the Mad Queen’s head.

“I think she’s immediately envious because Daenerys is more beautiful and younger than she is and the prophecy says somebody younger and more beautiful will take her place so I’m sure that’s at the forefront of her mind,” she told the publication.

“And Tyrion is her Hand, so she couldn’t be any worse.”

The prophecy Headey discusses came into play during the prologue to season five when a young Cersei visited Maggy the Frog.

“You’ll never wed the prince. You’ll wed a king … You’ll be queen. For a time. Then comes another — younger, more beautiful — to cast you down and take all that you hold dear… The king will have 20 children, you’ll have three. Gold will be their crowns; gold their shrouds.”

Everything Maggy said has so far come true, minus being cast down. Cersei previously believed that younger, more beautiful person to be Margaery Tyrell, but now she seems to believe that’s Dany.

There’s also another part of the prophecy that only appears in the books, forecasting death by a younger brother, which you can read about here.

Headey also spoke about Cersei’s lie to Jon Snow and Dany, saying: “I think her lie will be very shocking. She’s such a bitch. She’s so unforgiving of everybody.”

Whatever happens, we’ll discover all during the eighth season of Game of Thrones, the six episodes set to reach HBO either late 2018 or early 2019.
