Dragons, fights, sex, epic battles, a lot of snow and a wedding – and that’s just the trailer for Game of Thrones season five.

A new teaser has been released ahead of its premiere next month, which promises new characters including Doran Martell, played by Alexander Siddig, the High Sparrow, played by Jonathan Pryce and Obara Sand, played by Keisha Castle-Hughes.

The trailer opens with an ominous monologue from Daenerys (Emilia Clarke): “Lannister, Baratheon, Stark, Tyrell, they're all just spokes on a wheel.

"This one's on top and that one's on top and on and on it spins, crushing those on the ground. We're not going to stop the wheel. I'm going to break the wheel."

Last month’s trailer promised that “justice has a price” in a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes workings of the warring houses and the new footage shows the chaos to come.

"Winter is coming,” Jon Snow remind us and Stannis Baratheon is marching to take the North.

Meanwhile, King’s Landing faces problems of its own from the High Sparrow, decreeing that the “gods demand justice” as his followers spoil everyone’s fun by draining beer barrels and smashing up idols.

The trailer was released at an Apple event where a new US-only streaming service, HBO Now was unveiled.

UK Game of Thrones fans will be able to watch the new series on Monday 13 April on Sky Atlantic.
