Season seven of Game of Thrones had some extraordinary moments, but none quite matched the astonishing episodes ‘Hardhome' and ‘Battle of the Bastards’.

That may have been because the mastermind behind those two instalments, Miguel Sapochnik, was absent for the entire season.

However, thanks to an Instagram post by cinematographer Fabian Wagner, we know Sapochnik’s likely returning for the HBO show for the final run.

Alongside Wagner and Sapochnik are VFX producers Joe Bauer and Steve Kullback, as well as crew member Caroline Alderson.

Game of Thrones directors typically helm two episodes per season, Sapochnik also directing ‘The Gift’ from season five and season six’s brilliant finale, ‘Winds of Winter’.

With the eighth season only being six episodes, each one rumoured to be film-length, perhaps the esteemed director will only work on one.

Production on season eight has not yet officially begun, so any official confirmation on who’s directing which episode is likely some way off.

Earlier this month, the first casting call for season eight was made, HBO searching for a ‘Northern Girl’ and ‘Boy’. Game of Thrones returns either next year or early 2019.
