Game of Thrones season 8: Emilia Clarke has filmed her final scene and it sounds ominous
'Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavour in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is…'
Game of Thrones is getting close to wrapping production on the final season now and for some cast members their work is already complete.
Emilia Clarke is Vanity Fair's cover story this month, and during the interview she confirmed that, while she probably has a little more filming still to do, she has shot Daenerys' "final on-screen moments".
Given how fiercely the show guards spoilers you might have expected her to stop here, but what she said next is very interesting:
"It fucked me up. Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavour in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is…"
This could be any flavour, of course, but the way Clarke phrased this it does sound as though we may leave the show feeling conflicted about Daenerys. She has been a bit of an anti-hero for some time now, largely a force for good in Westeros but with tendencies toward dictatorship.
You could also interpret Clarke's words as suggesting that Daenerys survives.
The interview also confirms Clarke has been "shooting for the first time with several of the show’s top stars, including Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)," while the actress noted that during film she has been "doing all this weird shit - you'll know what I mean when you see it." Intriguing.
Game of Thrones season 8 has yet to be given a release date but is expected early 2019.
