Hilary Duff has hinted that the Lizzie McGuire reboot is having problems at Disney + because it is not family-friendly enough.
Earlier this year, the show’s original creator and showrunner, Terri Minsky, unexpectedly left the revival after two episodes were filmed.
At the time, Disney+ said: “We need to move in a different creative direction and put a new lens on the series.”
Now, Duff has alluded to the revival’s issues in her new Instagram story. The actor posted a screenshot of a recent report about Love, Simon moving from Disney+ to Hulu because it was not “family-friendly” enough for the streaming service, alongside the caption: “Sounds familiar.”

Multiple sources close to the show told Variety that Duff – who was on honeymoon when Minsky was fired – was not happy with Disney+ for dismissing the showrunner.
Variety ’s report states that Disney+ was initially on board with the show taking a more “adult” angle, but that executives ultimately opted for something “that would appeal to kids and families, something more akin to the original series”.
A Disney spokesperson said: “Our goal is to resume production and to tell an authentic story that connects to the millions who are emotionally invested in the character, and a new generation of viewers, too.”
Minsky said she is “proud” of the episodes that were shot and that she would “love” the reboot to move to Hulu so she and Duff can “do the show that we were doing” for viewers.
In October last year, Duff shared a first-look photo from the set of the revival in New York.
The new show sees Lizzie as a 30-year-old millennial navigating life in Manhattan.
The original series was one of Disney Channel’s biggest hits and spawned a spin-off movie in 2003.
