House of Cards Season 5 Release Date Announcement

Netflix has used Donald Trump's inauguration day to announce the return date of US drama House of Cards.

The political drama, which stars Kevin Spacey as the dastardly US President Frank Underwood, will return on 30 May 2017.

Typically, past seasons have been released in February but season five will arrive on the streaming service three months later than usual.

Robin Wright will return as First Lady Claire Underwood while other cast members expected to reappear include Michael Kelly as Doug Stamper, Paul Sparks as Thomas Yates and Neve Campbell's political consultant LeAnn Harvey.

Moonlight actor Mahershaler Ali recently revealed that his character won't be returning for the show's fifth season.

This will be the first season without showrunner Beau Willimon following the appointment of producers Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese.

House of Cards, based on the BBC miniseries, began in 2013 and has aired every year since.
