The Inbetweeners: YouTube clears up confusion over removal

Viewing platform caught in storm after comedy show was removed from channels

YouTube has responded after facing criticism following the removal of The Inbetweeners from its streaming service.

Fans were in uproar after realising that the sitcom is no longer available to watch via the platform.

Many assumed the move was related to the removal of shows including Little Britain and The League of Gentlemen from BBC iPlayer, Britbox and Netflix amid concerns about its use of blackface and racist humour

However, YouTube has now announced it had no involvement in taking The Inbetweeners down, and attributed responsibility to the owner of the channel.

Moreover, a spokesperson for C4 – the channel that originally aired the sitcom – said: “The rights owner of The Inbetweeners (outside the UK) has changed from DRG to Banijay Group, so the standalone YouTube channel showing The Inbetweeners content has been taken down for the time being. Full episodes are still available on All 4.”

Fans were quick to criticise the removal on social media, although others were on hand to assure people it was most likely down to the show’s arrival on BritBox.

The Inbetweeners, which originally aired on C4, stars Simon Bird, Blake Harrison, Joe Thomas and James Buckley.
