Jennifer Lawrence has attacked Joan Rivers and Kelly Osbourne's Fashion Police, claiming the TV show encourages children and teenagers to judge each other based on looks.

The show, which airs on the E! network, sees a celebrity panel evaluate that week's red carpet outfits.

But there was controversy in 2011, when Rivers said Christina Aguilera was "stuffed into" a black Givenchy dress and Kelly Osbourne added: "Maybe she is just becoming the fat bitch she was born to be."

Lawrence, who won the Best Actress Oscar earlier this year for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, told Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer: "There are shows like the Fashion Police that are just showing these generations of young people to judge people based on all the wrong values and that it's OK to point at people and call them ugly or fat.

"They call it 'fun' and they say 'welcome to the real world' - and that shouldn't be the real world, it's going to continue being the real world if we keep it that way. We have to stop treating each other like that and stop calling each other fat."

The 23-year-old said there are "unrealistic expectations" of how women should look, and claimed that it is the media that "keeps it alive and fuels that fire".

Lawrence recently starred in an advertising campaign for Dior, but she admitted the images had been digitally altered with Photoshop.

She insisted there was no need to resemble an "airbrushed perfect model," saying: "What are you going to do? Be hungry every single day to make other people happy? That's just dumb."
