Legion season 2: Noah Hawley's cerebral X-Men spinoff confirmed to return

The Fargo creator's series has earned rave reviews since premiering last month

Mindbending X-Men spinoff Legion, a new series from the creative mind of Fargo's Noah Hawley, has been renewed for a second season having scored admirable acclaim and audience ratings since it began in February.

There's currently no official word on key details surrounding the sophomore outing but cast members Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza and Jean Smart are all expected to return. Deadline also reports that season two is expected to air on FX in early 2018 with at least as many episodes as season one (eight).

Stevens, who can next bee seen in Disney's live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, stars as Marvel character David Haller, a young man diagnosed with schizophrenia who discovers he may be more than human.

Marvel is naturally overwhelmed by the success of Legion with executive producer and Marvel Television boss Jeph Loeb saying: “Noah’s spectacular take on David Haller and all the other characters he brought to life makes us ache for more.“

The second season announcement is great news for fans: Smart, who plays Melanie Bird, told us that Legion's first season finale ends on a huge cliffhanger.

Hawley has recently been hard at work on the third season of Emmy award-winning anthology series Fargo which returns with Ewan McGregor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Carrie Coon in April.
