Mickey Lee, a contestant on the most recent season of Big Brother, has died aged 35.

Lee died Thursday evening. Her family shared the news Friday via Instagram.

“Mickey captured the hearts of audiences nationwide through her appearance on Big Brother, where her authenticity, strength and spirit left a lasting impression on fans and fellow cast members alike,” the family’s statement said.

“She will be remembered for the joy she brought into the lives of so many and for the genuine connections she formed both on and off screen.”

Lee’s family shared news of her worsening health earlier this week when a GoFundMe was launched to support mounting medical bills.

“Mickey recently suffered a series of cardiac arrests following complications from the flu and is now in the ICU in critical but stable condition,” the GoFundMe’s description read in part. “She has been surrounded by medical professionals and loved ones, but the road ahead will be long and challenging.”

Lee’s family was asking for financial help for costs such as her ICU and specialist care, rehabilitation and recovery support and medical expenses that are not covered by insurance. As of December 26, GoFundMe has raised more than $32,000 and has a $40,000 goal.

Many Big Brother alums shared their condolences to Lee’s family and expressed how much they loved her on Instagram.

“She will always be remembered and I am beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know her for the short period I did- she shared so much light with us and was such an amazing,” Rachel Reilly, who starred on season 12 and 13 of Big Brother, commented on the post from Lee’s family. “Sorry for your loss and my prayers for your family RIP MICKEY you are missed - love to all of you.”

“This is so heartbreaking. I’m so happy she got to live out an experience of a lifetime on Big Brother and share her light with the world,” Big Brother Canada season 12 winner, Bayleigh Pelham, also commented. “I’m honoured to have met her for a brief moment. She was SO kind and beautiful, I was truly amazed by her light. This one hurts. Sending all my love to her family and friends.”

Big Brother season 25 star, Mecole Hayes, added: “Mickey. This is so devastating. We are incredibly sad for this unfortunate loss. Rest peacefully beautiful.”

Lee was on the 27th season of Big Brother and made it 59 days in the house before being eliminated. The reality star, who was based in Atlanta, finished the season in 10th place, with six houseguests voting her out.

Some of Lee’s housemates on Big Brother included Vince Panaro, Will Williams, Rylie Jeffries, and Keanu Soto, who was a fan favorite. However, it was Ashley Hollis who won the season, taking home the grand prize of $750,000.
