Netflix to average almost one TV series per week in 2017
Netflix has become one of the world's leading producers of original television and films – something the streaming service giant plans to continue in 2017.
Ted Sarandos, chief content officer, has announced that Netflix will produce enough content to average almost one new release per week.
Sarandos revealed to Variety that the streaming service currently has 30 scripted shows in development, with 20 more in the works.
Adding to their current slate – which includes House of Cards, The Crown and unprecedented smash-hit Stranger Things – will be Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, starring Neil Patrick Harris in the lead role, and David Fincher's Mind Hunter, which is set to follow the early days of serial killer profiling in the FBI.
Netflix will also add to its original movie canon with Bright – a film reuniting Will Smith with Suicide Squad director David Ayer – which looks to be 2017's big draw.

The one area in which the entertainment company remains coy to explore is live television. Sarandos said that sports coverage is something his fellow bosses are not considering just yet.
Last week, Netflix launched a download mode which permits users to view a selection of films and TV shows offline – a feature users have been banking on for years.
