Never Mind The Buzzcocks gets first permanent host since Simon Amstell in the form of Rhod Gilbert
Comedian was previously a guest on the quiz
After five years of guest hosts Never Mind The Buzzcocks has finally decided on a permanent presenter, with Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert set to fill Simon Amstell's figuratively humungous shoes.
Gilbert will join usual team captains Noel Fielding and Phill Jupitus when the music quiz returns for a 28th series later in the year.
"After my first Buzzcocks in 2009, I was told I was in with a shout to take over as regular host, and now, just five years later, I got the call," Gilbert joked. "It has all happened so fast.
"Never Mind the Buzzcocks is one of those rare shows that feels like it belongs on our screens. It's an institution, in a good way. It's a great honour to be asked to take the reins full time and to hang out with Noel and Phill, and I'm equally excited and nervous about adding my name to those who have hosted it in the past."
There will be considerable pressure on the comedian given Amstell's popularity on the show, and its patchiness since his departure.
The BBC's Mark Lindsay said Gilbert is the "perfect host" and has "great knowledge of music and fantastic comedy talent".
Filming for the new series will start later this year with the first episode set to air in autumn.
