Peaky Blinders movie could happen, Julia Roberts apparently keen to star

The 'conversation' has been had.

Because it’s impossible to enjoy a TV show without insisting it get its own movie, the possibility of a Peaky Blinders film has started being discussed.

"We did have a conversation about potentially doing a movie," executive producer Caryn Mandabach told Digital Spy ahead of season 3’s arrival next week.

"There are many people in America that love Peaky Blinders and plenty of movie stars that want to be in the movie.

"We heard Julia Roberts wants to do it - but this is hearsay... I don't really know for sure."

It’s hard to imagine how Roberts would be right for the show apart from the ‘it’s Julia Roberts!’ factor, although as Tommy’s makes business moves in the US I guess it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.

Creator Steven Knight (look out for our interview with him later in the week), added: "I think it'd be great to have a series, then a film, a series, a film... why not?"

"But there's no nothing until we get a season four from the BBC," Mandabach cautioned. "The TV show has to take precedence. Sure, we sell it everywhere, and thank God for Netflix [who run the series in the US] - but it's a very important thing to us, the BBC."

Filming on season 3, which launches 5 May, wrapped in February, with Cillian Murphy this week sharing the crazy number of cigarettes he smoked playing Tommy Shelby.
