A video of Piers Morgan describing his association with Meghan Markle before she met Prince Harry has resurfaced in the wake of his departure from Good Morning Britain.

Morgan left the ITV morning talk show yesterday evening (9 March) after facing heavy criticism for his remarks about the Duchess of Sussex’s recent interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In the interview, Meghan revealed she had experienced suicidal thoughts during her time as a senior royal. On Good Morning Britain, Morgan said: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said ... I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report.”

Ofcom is investigating the incident after receiving more than 40,000 complaints from viewers. Morgan appeared on yesterday morning’s show, at one point walking off-set following criticism from co-presenter Alex Beresford.

In the wake of the news, a clip of Morgan’s 2018 interview with Irish broadcaster RTE has been shared on social media. In the video, Morgan recalls his association with the former Suits star back in 2016.

According to Morgan, they followed each other on Twitter in 2015 and she claimed to be a fan of his. The pair then struck up a friendship on the social media site.

Claims Morgan, when Meghan came over to the UK to watch Serena Williams play tennis at Wimbledon in July 2016, she met up with him at the pub.

“We had two hours in the pub, she had a couple of dirty martinis and pints – we got on brilliantly,” Morgan told The Late Late Show. “Then I put her in a cab, and it turns out it was the cab that took her to a party where she met Prince Harry.”

“The next night they had a solo dinner and that was the last I ever heard from Meghan Markle. I never heard from her again – Meghan Markle ghosted me.”

Some social media users have suggested that the interaction may have been a factor in Morgan’s attitude to the Duchess in the years since.
