Rob Brydon confirms The Trip is returning for a series 3 set in Spain

Sky Atlantic has bought the show, however, which will see it move from its previous home on BBC Two

Star Rob Brydon has confirmed The Trip will be returning to screens for a 3rd series; though the show will be moving to Sky Atlantic from its previous home at BBC Two.

The network has commissioned another six-episode series of the show from director Michael Winterbottom and stars Brydon and Steve Coogan. Following in the footsteps of series 2's European affair, the new slew of episodes will take place across Spain; Den of Geek reports filming is currently set for Cantabria, the Basque region, Aragon, Castile-La Mancha, and Andalusia.

Brydon confirmed the news on Twitter, announcing; "The Trip is returning, this time to Spain via Sky Atlantic. Shooting in the Autumn. Hurrah!"

'Same format? Same jokes', he also quipped; responding to a fan's question on the social media site as to whether the show would follow the same structure as in previous series. Indeed, the show will follow the pair's continued musings, shared over various culinary explorations across the Mediterranean coast.

Same jokes, though? Does that mean we'll be treated to another Michael Caine-off? Because that would be an entirely acceptable thing to happen. There's no word yet on whether series 3 will also be edited as a feature film release; with 2010's The Trip and 2014's The Trip to Italy both reaching cinemas.

The news follows Sky's own acquirement of series 2 of Steve Coogan's Alan Patridge's Mid Morning Matters, which premieres 16 February on Sky Atlantic, 10pm.
