Succession: HBO orders series from The Big Short director Adam McKay, Will Ferrell and Peep Show writer

It will centre on a dysfunctional family from the 1%

Game of Thrones might soon be over for another year, but HBO has more good stuff on the way,

Today it ordered a pilot for a show called Succession, which has a bit of a dream team behind it.

The Big Short director Adam McKay is its creator, with Will Ferrell and Veep creative consultant Frank Rich executive producing and the first episode being written by Peep Show’s Jesse Armstrong.

It is described by Variety as ‘a family drama that follows the saga of a fictional, American global-media family that is not only rich and powerful, but also powerfully dysfunctional. The project will explore family loyalty, international business and the perils of power in the 21st century.’

The network has also ordered what is sure to be a provocative drama from Zero Dark Thirty director Kathryn Bigelow.

Mogadishu, Minnesota is ‘grapples with what it means to be American, among the Somalis of Minneapolis. When the project was put into development, it was described as giving a glimpse into the world of Jihadi recruitment.’

With these protects a way off, your next big HBO fix will likely be Westworld, which comes from Christopher Nolan’s brother Jonathan and arrives this autumn.
