The apprentice 2018: Sarah is the first to be fired

The Apprentice returned with another crop of 16 candidates hoping to become Lord Sugar’s next business partner.

The first episode of series 14 saw the newcomers travel to Malta for the fan favourite shopping task, something we usually have to wait until later in the series for.

As ever our main host was Lord Alan Sugar, with ever-faithful Karren Brady and Claude Littner by his side.

Follow along with the first episode as it happened.

Flick through all the new candidates below.

The Apprentice will air every Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One from 3 October.

The contestants are scrounging around looking for the items they recognise, and trying to decipher the ones they don't. Personally I'm just thinking about how lovely Malta looks.

They look a bit scared. #TheApprentice #ApprenticeWednesdays

Karren is having a go at the boys, lambasting their lack of initiative. I know I haven't been forced to follow them around all day like she has, but to me it seems like they're doing a pretty decent job of it.

Sarah's 'negotiating' tactics seems to be shouting at local people in English and gesticulating wildly. Strong business technique there.

"Let's not go in there and look like an idiot."

*Opens door and goes in.*

"I'm looking for an octopus with a 40 inch hose."

'Nuff said.

Yet more shouting from the women. So much so I've actually had to turn the TV down. Already Sarah is coming across as very...vocal.

Jasmine is clinging on as PM while her team revolts under her. I'm suddenly having flashbacks to this week's Tory Party Conference, no idea why...

And we're back to the boys who are whizzing round picking up their items. Stretchy-hose-ocotpus-gate aside, they're looking like firm favourites to win the task at the moment.

The Octopus . They won’t have 8 legs to stand on .

'EVERYTHING IS OUR JOB." The huge pressure of having to spend one whole day shopping is really getting to them...
