US network AMC has apologised after posting a revealing Walking Dead spoiler on its Facebook and Twitter pages before Sunday’s mid-season finale had aired in the West Coast, and the UK.

AMC posted a picture of Daryl carrying Beth’s body moments after the East Coast broadcast had aired in the US, spoiling the episode’s final scenes for viewers three hours behind on the West Coast, and over 12 hours behind in other countries.

The post was taken down and re-posted after the West Coast broadcast, but still proved a huge spoiler for fans outside of the US.

AMC has since apologised in a statement on its Facebook wall.

“We heard your feedback to last night’s post, and we’re sorry. With zero negative intent, we jumped the gun and put up a spoiler. Please know we’re going to work to ensure that, in future, possible spoilers by official AMC social feeds are killed before they can infect, certainly before the West Coast (US) broadcast of The Walking Dead.

“As always, thank you for watching, and keep the comments coming. We appreciate all of your support. #RIPSpoiler.”

The Walking Dead will return for its final eight episodes of season five in February.
