The second episode of The Walking Dead season 8 has aired with one of the US drama's most action-packed outings to date.

While a whole bunch of Saviours fail to make it out of the episode alive, 'The Damned,' sees one named character receive what looks like it could be a fatal bullet.

During a shoot-out at one of the Saviours' outposts, Eric Raleigh (Jordan Woods-Robinson) - the partner of Aaron (Ross Marquand) - is one of the group's most fervent soldiers, taking down numerous Saviours. But by the end of the episode, Aaron is seen helping Eric to safety as blood pours out of his stomach.

Eric may be alive as the episode ends, but his fate is in the balance. Will he live? Below is what happens to the character in the comic books.

*Comic book spoilers below*

Eric fails to make it past this battle, his life ending with a shot to the head in issue 118 which serves as the inspiration for this episode.

The moment in question sees Aaron catch his partner's corpse, mourning him as a hail of bullets fly overhead.

Will Eric be the first true casualty of this season? If producers are sticking with the comic books, it certainly seems like it's heading that way.

The episode’s biggest moment arrived at the end which saw the surprise return of a character Rick hasn't seen since season 1.

The Walking Dead season eight airs every Sunday in the US on AMC with the UK premiere arriving the following evening on FOX. It will also be available on NOWTV
