Piers Morgan has claimed that Donald Trump was tricked by an impersonator pretending to be him while aboard Air Force One.

According to Morgan, Trump, who just lost the 2020 presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden, spoke to a prankster on the phone for several minutes before cottoning on to the ruse.

In his column for the Daily Mail, the Good Morning Britain presenter wrote: “[Trump had] seen me talking about him on US breakfast TV show Fox And Friends, and thought it was time to bury the hatchet. He dropped an immediate bombshell.”

Trump supposedly told him that he was “scammed by a fake Piers”, adding: “Yeah, some guy rang pretending to be you when I was on Air Force One yesterday, and I actually spoke with him for a few minutes. He sure sounded like you. I guess we’ll soon be reading about it somewhere. A fake Piers, crazy!”

Morgan also claimed that the president took the incident in good humour.

“Only Trump could find such a prank funny,” he wrote. “Most world leaders would be horrified to be caught out like this.”

Since failing to gain re-election, Trump has refused to concede the result, instead making unsubstantiated claims that some of Biden’s votes were fraudulent.

The divisive former reality TV star has drawn criticism from public figures across the political spectrum for his reaction to the election result.

Writer Stephen King addressed the president on Twitter, writing: “You lost, you miserable self-entitled infantile f***er. Concede and get the hell out.”
