Westworld season 2 creators confirm which characters will return

New episodes will air in the US and UK this April

The creators of Westworld have confirmed the status of every character whose life was thrown into danger in the closing moments of season 1.

Having been off screens for over a year, the HBO series is set to return in April with Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) leading the host uprising against the futuristic park's human guests.

Creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have remained tight-lipped on what to expect from new episodes, but in a brand new interview with Entertainment Weekly, they've provided an update on some characters who have been absent from the trailers so far as well as those confirmed to appear.

Three of the park's workers find themselves on the other side of proceedings, with Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) - the park's British head writer - held hostage by Maeve (Thandie Newton) as the season begins. “He’s found himself in the most uncomfortable position he can possibly be in,” Quarterman says. “These hosts have always been props to his stories, and now it’s like he’s become a player in one of his own stories.”

Same goes for programmer Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward) and security chief Ashley Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) who, Joy reveals, will experience Westworld as guests following the former's disappearance and the latter's search for her. “I’m not sure they’re enjoying their experience,” she added.

Delos' Executive director Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) will also find herself in a precarious situation who is “at the mercy of the hosts like everyone else.

“She went from this controlled person playing this chess game with Ford. He takes out her king and queen in one fell swoop.“

As for the park's creator, Dr. Robert Ford, Nolan and Joy confirm Hopkins' time on the show has come to an end, which doesn't mean we won't see the character in another capacity - more specifically, in flashback played by a different character.

This season will also bridge the gap to show how William (Jimmi Simpson) went from innocent newbie to seasoned veteran with so much influence over Delos.

Other characters confirmed to return as main cast members include Peter Abernathy (Louis Herthum) and former brother worker Clementine (Angela Sarafyan).
