Forget Harry Potter and Hogwarts. Everybody’s favourite hapless witch Mildred Hubble is making a comeback in a TV revival of Nineties classic The Worst Witch.

CBBC is developing a run of 13 new episodes about Mildred’s misadventures with her magical friends at Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches, Radio Times reports.

Jill Murphy, who wrote the original children’s books, shared her excitement at the comeback plans when they were first announced in 2014.

“We're just in the process of working on it with the BBC,” she told The Telegraph at the time. “They have much better special effects for the animals, so it should be wonderful. I'm really, really looking forward to it.”

Georgina Sherrington, Una Stubbs and Felicity Jones starred in the CITV series, which followed a “terribly disappointing” 1986 film adaptation. Jones was nominated for an Oscar for The Theory of Everything last year but in our eyes, she’ll always be mean witch Ethel Hallow.

Two further TV series, Weirdsister College and The New Worst Witch failed to rival the first. Let’s hope the folks at CBBC realise the pressure they’re under not to taint our childhood memories eh?
